What Are Heart Rate Zones?

Heart rate zones represent different exercise intensity levels and are typically divided into five categories:Resting, Fat-Burning, Aerobic, Anaerobic, and Maximum Effort.Training within the right heart rate zone can improve endurance, fat loss, and cardiovascular health.

How to Calculate Your Heart Rate Zones

Your heart rate zones are based on your Maximum Heart Rate (MHR), which is estimated using: MHR = 220 - Your Age Each zone is then calculated as a percentage of your MHR:

  • Zone 1 (50-60% MHR): Light activity, ideal for recovery and warm-ups.
  • Zone 2 (60-70% MHR): Fat-burning zone, great for weight loss and endurance.
  • Zone 3 (70-80% MHR): Aerobic zone, enhances cardiovascular fitness and stamina.
  • Zone 4 (80-90% MHR): Anaerobic zone, improves performance and muscle strength.
  • Zone 5 (90-100% MHR): Maximum effort, builds speed and power but should be used sparingly.
